I’ve owned every possible combination of these since moving exclusively to laptops 5 years ago. Mini-VGA -> DVI, Mini-DVI -> Composite/S-video, DVI -> Composite/S-video, DVI -> VGA, Apple Display Port -> DVI (which wouldn’t actually work if I traded in my 2 month old Macbook Pro for slightly newer model Macbook Pro. I cathartically threw away all my useless ones or I’d share a photo just like this only slightly worse.
